Art of conversation
Friends and colleagues
It is an interesting matter to work with people for a longer period of time. Many bonds and memories are created. Especially when people like each other and want to share time. I had the pleasure to experience a big spectrum of personalities during working as a barista. I believe that in every person there is an amazing story that leads to the same place, and sharing more than just a purpose of earning money makes time special. Place where there is a feeling of belonging.
I’ve been wondering about when knowing someone turns into a friendship. There is no magical button that You can press and someone becomes a friend, it evolves with time. Connections that become special with time are the result of checking ourselves and building trust between us. Knowing what we can expect from others and in result from us makes a trustworthy relation.
There are many roles that we can play in life. In a coffee shop there are functions like barista, cashier, server. It is fun when improvisation comes along, and there is a place for laughter and sharing points of view over life. There comes moments of struggle and it is not always possible to enjoy every shift, but it is always possible to try.
Once that daily routine comes to life it is easy to forget how a wonderful time it is possible to have, when You have someone to share it with. I was a listener and talker in interactions, and what I can say is, there is always something new to learn from anyone, if there is a will to do so from both sides. Dreams, goals, and philosophies of others can be inspiring to learn. Unfortunately, daily routine sometimes is taken as a way to live, and after doing something for too long, there is not much enthusiasm to share thoughts.
Friends are having those moments.
Life is a play
A good actor is not always who gains the most attention, it is someone who uses talents to best possibilities in their fields. Splitting the roles, and trying new angles looking for new dialogs, creating new interactions is something what I consider as art. Of course there is nothing wrong in going to work clock in and clock out, but I like to look for something more. A scene can last a minute, or more than an hour. There is something magical, when You ask the right question to the right person.
When there is someone with a really good story to hear out, it is often a missed opportunity that will never be repeated. Knowing someone's background, likes and dislikes can lead to interesting conclusions. You can ask someone
-Where are you from?
-New York
End of scene, or You can pursue dialog to learn something and see what is going to happen.
-What do You like about New York the most ?
-I think seasons, winter can be really cold, and with snow, and summer is also very pleasant, the transition of spring and fall gives incredible colors.
-What is Your favorite?
-Fall, when You can see all the colors of the leaves and it is not too cold to walk around.
-Sounds interesting
-When children bring life to the central park, and…
It is really very interesting how many descriptions of foreign cities, countries, states it is possible to get from people. When You have an opportunity to hear it from a tourist, immigrant, or local it brings a little bit of magic to every day, that is slipping through fingers like sand from a beach that You take just for a moment to experience. It is rather personal.
But when You have a friend it can lead to the happiest moments that are stored in our memories. Have courage to ask questions, and see what people learned from their lives. You might take some wisdom with You and pass it on to others.
