Taking responsibility
Meditation
I think that life will always give us what we need, not what we want. Sometimes it was hard for me to understand why something was happening to me, with time I understood that it was happening for me. When I had a victim mindset I was considering myself as someone who was not responsible for things that I was part of, and it was because I thought it was not my fault. Everything changed in one moment when I decided that even if it is not my fault it is my responsibility.
Thanks to that small shift in my thinking I became a creator of events that were happening in my life. Of course it is not gonna happen over one night, but successfully it will eventually take place. I became confident because I made a decision to work on my blocades that were holding me back from talking to people. Once upon a time, when I was not able to talk to others I started to talk to myself, to be able to express what I have in mind. Interesting thing that I discovered is that what once ruled me as a shy boy helped me to become a confident human.
All obstacles that were holding me back from believing in myself allowed me to grow, similar to working out at the gym but in my case it was my mindset. Mental gym that I was attending every time when I was talking to myself, then writing to myself to be able to express what I feel was a key that opened me a door to a reality, where I’m who I’m today. There are many ways to reach a peace of mind, every road has different views, and if it works for You it means that it is good. It is important to be able to communicate with others, but to do it well, it is important to be able to communicate with Yourself.
I consider writing as the best possible way to take the thoughts out from my head and see them as they are. When I was starting, I would not like to share it with anyone, because they were based on low self-esteem, and regrets to other people, but with time they became better, and more enjoyable. It is interesting what can happen when You close Your eyes and try to calm Yourself down. At the beginning there are many things from daily basics like work, close relations that are coming along, things that made me upset, or angry. Then they change for things that made me happy, and brought me joy.
All begins with taking responsibility for thoughts that are appearing with the breath. It can be called meditation, contemplation, retrospection, coming back to a path, but all of them lead to things that are important to me. Let’s call it meditation and attempt to take control over my life, it all starts with calming down, and taking a series of breaths. Sometimes my body was not allowing me to calm down, there were so many things going on out there that I was turning myself from one side to another, trying to push the thoughts away. Funny observation from my side is that it was not working at the beginning, but I’ve learned how to do it.
So to start a journey of taking responsibility for Your life, I could suggest taking responsibility over breath. If You want to give it a try I use 7 breaths.
7 seconds - Inhale
7 seconds - hold breath
7 seconds - exhale
7 seconds - hold breath
Repeat 7 times
It is a start, it doesn’t have to work at first attempt but it is like a metronome for mind.
